Aeropostale return policy: 60-day returns with a $7 mail label

Aeropostale Return Policy 2026: 60-Day Returns, $7 Mail Label & No-Receipt Rule

Aeropostale’s return policy gives you 60 days from the date of purchase to return or exchange unwashed, unworn or defective merchandise, as long as the original price tickets are still attached and you have the original sales receipt or gift receipt. Online orders can go back by mail or to a US store in most cases, a prepaid mail label costs $7 deducted from your refund, and an approved mail return is refunded to your original payment method within 30 days of Aeropostale receiving the package.

The rule with real teeth is the receipt rule: returns will not be accepted without an original sales or gift receipt.

Return Period: 60 days (from the date of purchase)

Mail Returns: $7 deducted for the prepaid label

Refund Timing: Within 30 days of Aeropostale receiving the returned package

No Receipt: Returns will not be accepted without an original sales or gift receipt

How to Return an Item to Aeropostale

  1. Check the 60 days, the tags and the receipt first. Count from the date of purchase, not delivery. The item must be unwashed and unworn (or defective), with its original price tickets attached — swimwear and underwear are only returnable with the tickets attached — and you need the original sales receipt or gift receipt. Without a receipt, Aeropostale will not accept the return.
  2. Decide between store and mail. Most online orders can be returned either way, but Online-Only items, online purchases made in Canada, Room Merchandise (including bedding and accessories) and Fragrance are mail-only. In-store purchases go the other way: they must be returned to a US store, not mailed to the online returns centre. An online order picked up in store may only be returned in store.
  3. For a store return, bring the right paperwork. For an in-store purchase, bring the original sales or gift receipt; for an online order returned to a store, bring the packing slip or confirmation email. The store refunds a card or gift-card payment to the original form of payment, but if you paid with an alternate method such as Klarna, PayPal, PayPal Credit or Apple Pay, a store return gives store credit only — use the mail route for a refund to the original account.
  4. For a mail return, use the packing slip and the prepaid label. Pack the item securely, in its original packaging if possible, select a “Reason for Return” code on the packing slip and include the packing slip in the package. If you cannot send the packing slip, include your order number, billing name and address. Affix the prepaid, pre-addressed label — no postage is necessary, but $7 will be deducted from your return credit — and drop the package at any UPS Store, UPS Drop Box, Office Depot or Staples.
  5. Or ship it yourself, at your own expense. Follow the same packing-slip steps and send the package by an insured shipping service, prepaid, to the Aeropostale Returns Center, 350 Omega Parkway, Shepherdsville, KY 40165. Aeropostale does not accept C.O.D. or third-party billing for returned merchandise.
  6. Keep the tracking number and wait for the refund. Track the return by logging into your account at aeropostale.com, and keep the return tracking number until the refund lands. Aeropostale issues approved mail refunds within 30 days of receiving the package, and store-return guidance allows up to 30 days for the credit to appear on your billing statement.

How Long Do You Have to Return Items to Aeropostale?

The standard window is 60 days from the date of purchase, and it applies to online and in-store purchases alike. That date-of-purchase detail matters: unlike retailers that count from delivery, Aeropostale’s policy says “within 60 days of the date of purchase” in every section, so a slow shipment eats into your window rather than extending it. The item must be unwashed, unworn or defective and carry its original price tickets, and all returns reflect the original discounts and promotions — a sale item is refunded at the price you actually paid. Aeropostale may also refuse or delay a return if fraud or abuse is suspected.

Two hard edges sit outside the 60 days: orders greater than 50 units are final sale — no adjustments, exchanges or returns, no exceptions — and gift cards are final sale, full stop.

Can You Return an Online Order to a Store?

Usually, yes — and for most shoppers it is the better route, because a store return avoids the $7 mail-label deduction. Bring the original packing slip (and keep a copy). Two catches are worth knowing before you travel.

The first is the mail-only list: Canadian online purchases, Online-Only items, Room Merchandise (including bedding and accessories) and Fragrance cannot be returned to stores at all — those go by mail to Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The second is the payment-method catch: if you paid online with an alternate method — Klarna, PayPal, PayPal Credit or Apple Pay — a store return gives you store credit only; for a refund to that account, mail it back instead. The same applies to in-store purchases paid with PayPal or PayPal Credit. A card or gift-card payment is the clean case: a store return refunds it to the original form of payment.

In-store purchases have a simpler rule: they must be returned or exchanged at a US store with the original receipt, not mailed to the online returns centre. That includes online orders picked up in store, which may only be returned in store, with the original pickup receipt.

Can You Return to Aeropostale Without a Receipt?

No — and this is where Aeropostale is stricter than most big retailers. The published policy repeats the rule in several sections, in the same words: “Returns will not be accepted without an original sales or gift receipt.” There is no published store-credit fallback for a receiptless return, no ID-based lookup route and no stated exception. If the receipt is missing, look for the order confirmation email, the packing slip or the account order history — the mail steps let you substitute your order number, billing name and address when you cannot send the packing slip — or ask the store or Customer Service. But the published policy gives no guarantee there, so treat the receipt as part of the item.

The gift-receipt version of the rule is just as specific. A return made with an original gift receipt is refunded with an Aeropostale Merchandise Credit (also called a Merchandise Return Card) at the selling price shown on the gift receipt — not a refund to the giver’s card and not cash.

What Can’t Be Returned to Aeropostale?

The published non-returnable list is short, but each entry is absolute:

  • Gift cards — gift card sales are final
  • Orders greater than 50 units — final sale, non-refundable, no adjustments, exchanges or returns, no exceptions
  • Items without their original price tickets, in practice — swimwear and underwear can only be returned or exchanged with the price tickets attached, and the general rule requires original price tickets for any return
  • Items without an original sales or gift receipt — returns will not be accepted without one
  • Washed or worn merchandise (unless defective) — only unwashed, unworn or defective merchandise qualifies
  • Merchandise bought outside Aeropostale-owned stores or aeropostale.com — those items must be returned directly to the retailer that sold them, under that retailer’s policy
  • International shipments, by mail — no exchanges are facilitated on international shipments, and international returns run through a separate email-based authorisation process rather than the standard mail or store routes

Note, rather than a ban: the mail-only items above are not non-returnable, but they are store-non-returnable.

How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?

With a valid receipt inside the 60 days, the refund method follows how you paid and how you returned (see the table above). Three costs are never refunded on a standard return: original shipping and handling, gift-wrap and other charges. The one exception is a shipping refund for a damaged, defective or incorrectly shipped item — and only Customer Service at 877-289-2376, option 1, can issue that. Note the two 30-day clocks: Aeropostale issues the mail refund within 30 days of receiving the package, and store-return customers are told to allow 30 days for the credit to appear on a statement. A return posted a month ago with no refund showing is therefore still inside the published window — keep the tracking number until the money lands.

Does Aeropostale Extend Returns for the Holidays?

Not on its published policy page — and this is a case where third-party roundups disagree with the official source, so the official source wins. As of 30 October 2026, Aeropostale’s published returns page states the standard 60 days from the date of purchase and publishes no extended holiday return window: no October-to-January dates and no January deadline. Some coupon and deal sites describe a holiday extension running to late January, but that extension does not appear on Aeropostale’s own returns page, so this guide does not repeat it as a promise. For November or December gift buying, work to the 60 days from purchase and keep the gift receipt with the item — a gift return becomes Merchandise Credit, not a card refund.

What If Your Item Arrives Damaged or Defective?

Damaged and defective items follow a different first step from ordinary change-of-mind returns, and skipping it can cost you the shipping. If an online order arrives damaged or defective, contact a Customer Service Representative within 30 days of delivery at 877-289-2376 before mailing anything back, with your order number, item number, the tracking number from your original confirmation email, your email address and your phone number. The policy is explicit about why: “If you do not contact Customer Service, you are responsible for all return shipping charges.” Calling first puts the correct return method — and any shipping-charge treatment you qualify for — in place. If the carton itself is extensively damaged, contact Customer Service immediately with the same details. Defective merchandise generally follows the same 60-day rule, with the same receipt and ticket requirements.

Can You Get a Price Adjustment?

Yes, once, and only quickly. Aeropostale offers a one-time price adjustment if you present your original Aeropostale sales receipt within 7 days of purchase. That is a much shorter fuse than the 60-day return window, and it is receipt-gated like everything else here: no original sales receipt, no adjustment. The returns page does not publish a list of exclusions for the adjustment, so if the item was bought on clearance or as part of a limited promotion, confirm eligibility at the store or with Customer Service before counting on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

You have 60 days from the date of purchase to return or exchange unwashed, unworn or defective merchandise with its original price tickets and your original sales or gift receipt. Online orders can go back by mail ($7 deducted for the prepaid label) or to a US store, and approved mail refunds reach your original payment method within 30 days of Aeropostale receiving the package. Without an original sales or gift receipt, the return will not be accepted.

Under the published policy, no — 60 days from the date of purchase is the standard window, and Aeropostale’s official returns page published no extended holiday window as of 30 October 2026. Defective merchandise is covered inside the same 60 days.

Usually, yes, with the packing slip or confirmation email. Exceptions are Online-Only items, Canadian online purchases, Room Merchandise (including bedding and accessories) and Fragrance, which are mail-only. If you paid with PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay or a similar alternate method, a store return gives store credit only — mail it back for an account refund.

Using Aeropostale’s prepaid label costs $7, deducted from your return credit — no postage on top of that. Shipping it yourself means paying your own insured, prepaid shipping to the Returns Center in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Either way, original shipping, handling and gift-wrap charges are not refunded on a standard return.

No. Aeropostale’s published policy states that returns will not be accepted without an original sales or gift receipt, with no published store-credit fallback. For an online order, the packing slip, confirmation email or account order history may help, but acceptance without a receipt is not guaranteed by the published policy.

An approved mail return is refunded to the original form of payment within 30 days of Aeropostale receiving the package, and store returns carry guidance to allow up to 30 days for the credit to appear on your billing statement. Your bank’s posting time comes on top of that. Keep the return tracking number until the refund actually appears.

Gift cards (final sale), orders over 50 units (final sale with no exceptions), washed or worn non-defective merchandise, items without their original price tickets (swimwear and underwear strictly so), anything without an original sales or gift receipt, and merchandise bought from a retailer other than an Aeropostale store or aeropostale.com, which goes back to that retailer instead.

Contact Customer Service within 30 days of delivery at 877-289-2376, with your order number, item number, original tracking number, email address and phone number, before mailing anything back. If you skip that call, you are responsible for all return shipping charges under the published policy.

Related Guides

Aeropostale’s return policy is generous on time and strict on paperwork: 60 days is comfortable for clothing, the store route avoids the mail fee, and the refund terms are clearly stated. But the whole thing rests on two pieces of paper — the price ticket and the receipt. Keep both with the item until you are certain you are keeping it, choose mail over store if you paid with PayPal or Klarna and want the money back to that account, and call Customer Service within 30 days if anything arrives damaged, before you ship it anywhere. Lose the receipt and, on the published policy, there is no return at all.
