AKIRA Return Policy 2026: 30-Day Online Returns, 14 Days In Store & the $10 Label Fee
AKIRA’s return policy gives you 30 days from the order date to return eligible online orders, and 14 days from the purchase date for in-store returns — but the two channels play by different rules. Online returns can be refunded to your original payment method (minus a $10 label fee), while in-store returns are exchange or store credit only, never a cash or card refund.
There are also no online exchanges at all. This guide covers both channels, the final-sale list, and how to dodge the $10 fee.
Return Period: 30 days online / 14 days in store
Return Label Fee: $10 (waived with your own label)
Online Exchanges: Not available
Refund Processing: Up to 14 business days after arrival
Return Windows at a Glance
| Channel | Return window | Refund you get |
|---|---|---|
| Online orders (eligible full-price items) | 30 days from the order date | Original payment method or gift card/store credit, your choice, minus a $10 handling fee if you use AKIRA’s prepaid label |
| In-store purchases | 14 days from the purchase date | Exchange or store credit / gift card only — no cash or card refunds |
| International online orders | Postmarked within 30 days of delivery | US dollars to the original payment method; you pay return shipping, no label provided |
| Damaged or wrong items | Report within 7 days of delivery | Resolved through the returns portal with photos; exchanges for online orders are not available even for damaged or wrong items |
How to Return an Item to AKIRA
- Check your channel and your clock. Online orders run 30 days from the order date; in-store purchases run 14 days from the purchase date. The two clocks are not interchangeable.
- For an online return, start at the returns portal. Go to returns.shopakira.com and open your return before you ship anything. Choose your refund method — original payment or gift card/store credit.
- Pick your label. Use AKIRA’s prepaid label for a $10 fee deducted from your refund, or use your own carrier and label and send the parcel to AKIRA Returns – Bolingbrook, 150 E Crossroads, Suite D, Bolingbrook, IL 60440 — the $10 fee is waived when your own-label return arrives.
- Pack it to the standard. Items must be unworn, unwashed and unaltered, with all tags attached and packaging included; shoes go back in the original shoe box, and the return slip goes in the package. One return per shipment — do not combine items from multiple orders in one box.
- For an in-store return, take it to any AKIRA store. In-store purchases can be returned at any location within 14 days, but only for an exchange or store credit. Stores cannot accept mailed returns, and in-store purchases cannot be returned online.
How Long Do You Have to Return Items to AKIRA?
The headline split is the whole story: 30 days from the order date for online orders of eligible items, and 14 days from the purchase date for in-store purchases, where the outcome is an exchange or store credit. Note the online clock starts on the order date, not the delivery date — an order that spends a week in transit still counts from the day you placed it. International orders are the exception to the order-date rule: they must be postmarked within 30 days of delivery.
Can You Exchange an AKIRA Order Online?
No — and AKIRA says so plainly. Its help centre states: “At this time, we are unable to process exchanges for online purchases, including cases where an item arrives damaged or you receive the wrong item in error.” If you want a different size or colour from an online order, the route is to return the original item for a refund (or store credit) and place a new order. In-store exchanges do exist, but only for in-store purchases within 14 days, and only for full-price items that meet the condition rules.
What Does the $10 Return Fee Cover — and How Do You Avoid It?
AKIRA does not offer free returns. Its help centre is explicit: “Currently, we do not offer free returns. We do, however, provide a pre-paid return label for a $10 fee.” That $10 handling fee is deducted from your refund when you use AKIRA’s prepaid label (shown as a QR code or printable label from the returns portal). The one clean way around it is to ship with your own carrier and your own label: start the return in the portal first, then send the parcel to the Bolingbrook returns address above, and the $10 fee is waived upon receipt. You still pay your own carrier’s postage, so compare the two costs before choosing.
What Can’t Be Returned to AKIRA?
AKIRA’s final-sale list is long, and it differs slightly by channel. The items below cannot be returned:
- Earrings and body jewelry — no online returns; in-store, no jewelry or accessories at all
- Swimwear, hosiery and tights — online; intimates are also final sale
- Fashion face covers, fashion or styling body tape, and adhesive bras
- Gift cards — final sale, and store credits and gift cards never expire
- Any item marked “Final Sale”, including sale items with a Final Sale tag and items bought with a promotional code carrying a Final Sale disclaimer
- Sale items and accessories bought in store
- Reshipment and replacement orders — these are final sale
Condition rules apply on top of the list: everything returned must be unworn, unwashed and unaltered, with tags attached and original packaging. Worn or damaged items may be refused, or shipped back at your cost — and if AKIRA cannot reach you about a worn item, it is discarded after 30 days.
How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?
Online returns are refunded to your original payment method or as a gift card/store credit, whichever you choose when you start the return. Two exceptions: orders originally paid for with a gift card or store credit are refunded as a gift card, and if the original payment method cannot be refunded, the refund is issued as a gift card instead. In-store returns are store credit or gift card only — never cash or a card refund.
| Return route | How the refund timing works |
|---|---|
| Online, AKIRA prepaid label | Up to 14 business days for processing after the parcel arrives at the fulfilment centre; returns are processed first-in, first-out, and you get an email when the return is complete |
| Online, your own label | Same 14-business-day processing window; the $10 fee is waived on receipt |
| In store | Exchange or store credit issued at the store during your visit |
| Installment plans (Shop Pay Installments, Klarna) | Online returns refund the original payment method and notify the provider to adjust or cancel the remaining balance; in-store returns give store credit only and do not notify the provider, so your payment plan stays active |
What If Your AKIRA Order Arrives Damaged or Wrong?
Report it fast: incorrect or damaged items must be flagged within 7 days of delivery, with clear photos uploaded through the returns portal (returns.shopakira.com) under the matching return reason. AKIRA allows up to 48 business hours to review and reply with next steps. Remember that even for a damaged or wrong item, an online exchange is not available — the resolution is a return and refund (or store credit), and a fresh order if you still want the item.
Does AKIRA Extend Returns for the Holidays?
AKIRA’s published help centre articles carry no holiday return extension for 2026: no January deadline for December purchases appears in the online or in-store policy pages as of 31 October 2026. The standard windows apply year-round — 30 days online from the order date, 14 days in store. If you are buying gifts, the safer play is the in-store route’s store credit or an online return started well inside the 30 days.

AKIRA’s return policy is a two-track system with no free option: 30 days and a real refund online (minus $10 unless you ship it yourself), versus 14 days and store credit only in store — and no exchanges for online orders at all. Start every return in the portal, watch the order-date clock, and keep the tags on: that is the whole game.
