ASOS Return Policy: 28 Days From Delivery — and a $4.95 Catch for Guests
ASOS’ return policy, published on its US Customer Care pages, runs on one short clock and one checkout distinction. You have 28 days from the date your order is delivered to you, or made available for collection, to place your return and send it back, and accepted returns are refunded by way of the original payment method.
What the return costs depends on how you checked out: returns are free for ASOS account holders on qualifying orders, although ASOS may deduct and retain $4.95 under its Fair Use Policy; if you checked out as a guest, a $4.95 returns fee applies to all returns and is automatically deducted from your refund. Items must come back in their original condition, Final Sale items cannot be returned, and ASOS does not offer exchanges at all — every accepted return is a refund.
RETURN PERIOD – 28 days from delivery or from the item being made available for collection
ACCOUNT HOLDERS – Returns free on qualifying orders, though a $4.95 Fair Use deduction may be taken from the refund
GUEST CHECKOUT – $4.95 returns fee deducted from every refund
EXCHANGES – None — refunds only; return the item and place a new order

How to Return an Item to ASOS
- Start inside the 28 days. The clock runs from delivery, or from the item being made available for collection — and if your order arrived in several packages, from the final package. Place the return and send the items back inside that window.
- With an account, start in My Orders. Go to My Account, open My Orders and select Create Return on the order, then choose the items and the reasons for returning them.
- As a guest, use the returns platform. Create the return through ASOS’ guest returns platform and follow the on-screen instructions. Each guest order has to be registered separately — several guest orders cannot be bundled into one return.
- Get your QR code or label. ASOS emails a QR code or a returns label, also available under My Returns. Show the QR code at the drop-off point, or print the label and fix it to the front of the parcel, covering the old shipping label.
- Pack one registered return per parcel. Items from different orders can travel together only if everything fits in one parcel; anything that needs a second parcel needs its own return registration, QR code and tracking number.
- Drop off and keep your proof of postage. The parcel stays your responsibility until it reaches ASOS, so keep the drop-off receipt or confirmation — account holders track the return in My Returns, guests in the drop-off confirmation email.
How Long Do You Have to Return Items to ASOS?
28 days from delivery or collection — place the return and send the items back inside that window. Two details decide the real deadline. First, the clock starts on delivery, or on the item being made available for collection at your nominated store or collection point — not on the day you ordered, and not on the day you get round to opening the parcel. Second, split deliveries move the deadline in your favour: where an order arrives in more than one package, the 28 days starts when the final package is delivered or available for collection. After day 28, ASOS does not accept returns for unwanted items at all: a late parcel may be sent back to your original delivery address, and you may be asked to cover the delivery costs of sending it back to you.
Can You Return to ASOS Without an Account or Receipt?
ASOS has no till and no paper-receipt route — the order record is the receipt. Account holders return from My Orders, where the order itself drives the process; guests return through the returns platform, registering each order separately. ASOS’ US pages publish no way to return an item that cannot be tied to an order: there is no walk-in counter, no store-credit-without-proof fallback, and no lookup promise. The practical consequences are that a guest should keep the order and drop-off confirmation emails — the guest tracking number lives in the drop-off confirmation email — and anyone returning on someone else’s order needs that order’s details, not just the item.
What Can’t Be Returned to ASOS?
ASOS’ published exclusions on its US pages are a mix of a hard list and a condition test:
- Final Sale items — heavily discounted and not eligible for returns, exchanges or refunds, other than in exceptional circumstances
- Face + Body products that have been opened or used, or whose protective seal is not intact
- Underwear and swimwear where the hygiene seal is not intact or any labels have been broken
- Pierced jewellery and face coverings where the seal has been tampered with or is broken
- Anything after the 28 days — unwanted items are not accepted outside the window
- Items not in original condition — trying something on is fine, but worn, damaged or unsuitable-condition items may be refused on inspection, sent back to you, and you may be asked to cover the delivery costs
- ASOS Brand Partner items under ASOS’ own rules — items sold and shipped by a Brand Partner are returned directly to the brand, and that return policy is at the brand’s discretion; Brand Partner items shipped by ASOS follow the usual process
Every return is inspected — ASOS’ Quality Control team checks condition on arrival — and a full refund expects items unworn and unused, with all tags and labels attached and the original packaging, shoes in their original shoe box.
How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?
Refunds go to the original payment method — for card payments, to the original card used to pay, never to a different card. Two deductions can reduce what arrives: the $4.95 guest returns fee, which applies to every guest return, and a possible $4.95 Fair Use deduction for account holders, on which sales tax may also be charged depending on your state of residence. Delivery and handling costs are not refundable. On timing, ASOS publishes a chain rather than one number: returns take up to 14 calendar days to reach the warehouse and be processed, and its refunds page allows up to 21 business days from the day after drop-off for the parcel to arrive and be processed; ASOS aims to refund within 14 days of receiving the item into its warehouse, and once a return is processed the money may take up to 10 business days to reach your account, depending on your bank or payment provider. If you sent several orders back in one parcel, each order is processed separately, with its own refund email.
Does ASOS Offer Exchanges?
No — and ASOS states it plainly: we don’t offer exchanges. There is no size-swap or colour-swap mechanism in the US returns process at all. If you want a different size or colour, the published route is to return the unwanted item for a refund and place a new order. That has two practical consequences worth planning around: the replacement is charged as a fresh order when you place it, not netted against the refund, and the returned item still has to pass the same 28-day window and original-condition rules as any other return — a Final Sale item cannot be exchanged into a different size either, because it cannot be returned in the first place.
Does ASOS Extend Returns for the Holidays?
No extended holiday return window is published on ASOS’ US Returns Policy or US returns pages as of 1 November 2026 — the 28 days from delivery or collection rule is the year-round structure stated there. For gifts, that makes the delivery date the whole game: a parcel delivered in mid-December is returnable into mid-January, but one delivered in late November falls due before Christmas is over. What never changes with the season is the rest of the structure — Final Sale stays final, the guest $4.95 fee still applies, and the replacement for a wrong size still means a return plus a new order.

ASOS’ return policy is built on one brisk number — 28 days from delivery — and one checkout lesson: order with an account. Account holders return free on qualifying orders with at most a $4.95 Fair Use deduction; guests pay $4.95 every time. Add the hard edges — no exchanges, Final Sale means final, hygiene seals decide beauty and swimwear — and the working rules are simple: start the return from the order, keep tags and packaging until you are sure, and never let a gift sit unopened past its 28th day.
