Decathlon Return Policy: 30 Days on US Online Orders, Free Returns on Most Items and a 15% Premium Bike Fee

Decathlon’s US return policy gives you 30 days from purchase to return or exchange an item bought on decathlon.com, as long as it is unused, in new condition, with all tags attached and in its original packaging. Most non-clearance items qualify for free returns, and original shipping charges are refunded only when the return is Decathlon’s error.

The exceptions matter. Safety and lifesaving equipment, underwear, clearance and final sale items, and gift cards cannot be returned at all. Premium bikes play by their own rules: a used or assembled bike can draw a restocking fee of up to 15% of the original sale price, and return shipping for those bikes is on you.

This guide covers the 30-day window, the free-returns sticker, the premium bike policy, and how to start a return.

How to Return an Item to Decathlon

  1. Check the 30 days and the condition first. The item must have been purchased on decathlon.com less than 30 days ago. It must be unused and in new condition, with all tags attached and in its original packaging. A used, dirty or mishandled item will not be accepted.
  2. Check whether your item is excluded. Safety gear, underwear, clearance and final sale items, and gift cards cannot be returned. Premium bikes follow the separate bike policy in the section below.
  3. Start the return through Decathlon’s return link. The policy page directs you to return “HERE” — the returns portal linked from the Return Policy page. Follow the portal’s steps for your order and choose exchange or refund.
  4. Check the product page for the Free Returns sticker. Items that qualify for free returns carry a Free Returns sticker on their product page. Some large items, like bikes, do not qualify for free returns unless the product page says otherwise.
  5. Pack the item in its original packaging with all tags. Include everything it came with. For premium bikes, original packaging is a hard requirement, and missing parts can block the return entirely.
  6. Ship it and wait for evaluation. Premium bike refunds are issued after the returns department evaluates the bike, allowing 3–5 business days from delivery back to the facility. For other items, the policy page does not publish a general processing timeline — the return is processed after the item reaches Decathlon.

How Long Do You Have to Return Items to Decathlon?

The standard window is 30 days from purchase for items bought on decathlon.com. The policy page words it twice, and both wordings matter: you can return or exchange “within 30 days of purchase,” and every item you return “must have been purchased on decathlon.com less than 30 days ago.” Count from the purchase date, not from the day you first used the item or the day you decided it was wrong.

The policy applies to Decathlon America purchases only. It does not cover purchases made in other Decathlon countries. If you bought gear while travelling, that country’s Decathlon policy governs the return, not the US page.

One more scope limit: the return policy covers decathlon.com orders. Purchases from other retailers cannot be returned to the Decathlon Returns Department at all. If you bought a Decathlon product from another store, that store’s return policy is the one that applies.

Which Items Qualify for Free Returns?

Most of them. The policy page states that all non-clearance products qualify for free returns, with one carve-out: some large items like bikes do not qualify for free returns, unless otherwise stated on the product page. Items that qualify carry a Free Returns sticker on their product page, so check the page for your exact item before you assume the return is free.

Two money notes sit alongside the free-returns promise. First, original shipping charges are non-refundable unless the return is due to an error on Decathlon’s part, such as a wrong or defective item. If your order did not qualify for free shipping when you bought it, that shipping cost is not refunded when the return is processed. Second, free return shipping is not the same as a free return overall: a premium bike that shows signs of use can still lose up to 15% to a restocking fee, and its return shipping is the customer’s cost.

What Can’t Be Returned to Decathlon?

The published exceptions are short and strict:

  • Safety and lifesaving equipment — helmets, life jackets, climbing gear and similar items. The page says “includes, but isn’t limited to,” so treat any safety-critical gear as excluded unless the product page says otherwise.
  • Undergarments and boxers
  • Clearance and final sale items
  • Gift cards
  • Premium bikes under the separate bike policy — not flatly excluded, but governed by the stricter bike rules below

Beyond the list, the condition rule acts as a second exclusion. Used product, even lightly used, dirty product, or product damaged due to improper handling or use will not be accepted as a return. Decathlon will return it to you at your cost, or donate it. That is unusually blunt: a lightly used item is not a borderline case at Decathlon, it is a rejected return. Try gear on indoors, keep tags attached, and do not take it out for a test run if you may return it.

What Are the Premium Bike and Frame Rules?

Premium bikes and frames have their own section on the policy page, and it is the strictest part of Decathlon’s US policy. It applies to Van Rysel, Riverside GCR, Triban GRVL 900 and Rockrider RACE 900S bike models and frames.

  • Original packaging is required. The bike or frame must be returned in its original packaging.
  • Signs of assembly, use or wear can cost up to 15%. Products showing signs of assembly, use or wear are subject to a restocking fee of up to 15% of the original sale price, deducted from the final refund. Decathlon says customers will be told about any assessed fee and can choose to repossess the bike instead, at the cost of shipping.
  • Damaged or incomplete arrivals are not accepted. Products that arrive damaged or missing parts will not be accepted for exchange or return. If you want the bike back, you arrange the return at the cost of shipping.
  • Refunds come after evaluation. All refunds are issued after the returns department evaluates the product. Allow 3–5 business days from delivery back to the facility for the evaluation to be completed.
  • You pay the return shipping. Customers are responsible for managing and covering the cost of shipping the return.

If your bike arrived already damaged, that is a different case from a used-bike return. Report the damage with images by contacting Decathlon’s customer service team through the link on the policy page, rather than sending the bike back as a standard return.

Can You Return to Decathlon Without a Receipt?

Decathlon’s US policy page does not publish a receipt-free or no-receipt return route. What it does publish is a purchase test: the item must have been purchased on decathlon.com less than 30 days ago. In practice that means the return runs through your decathlon.com order, and the portal will check the order itself.

Keep your order confirmation and your decathlon.com account details until the 30 days have passed. Because the policy page frames eligibility around the decathlon.com purchase rather than a paper receipt, an order placed as a guest or under a different email could be harder to prove — use the same account and email for the return that you used for the purchase.

How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?

The policy page is specific about premium bikes and general about everything else, and that split is worth stating plainly. For premium bikes, refunds are issued after evaluation by the returns department, allowing 3–5 business days from delivery back to the facility for the evaluation. The restocking fee, where one applies, is deducted from the final refund amount.

For other items, the policy page promises an exchange or refund within 30 days but does not publish a general refund timing or a refund-method table. It does publish two financial rules that apply across the board: original shipping charges are non-refundable unless Decathlon made the error, and a used, dirty or mishandled item is not accepted at all, so no refund arises in that case.

Return typeWhat the published policy says about timing and cost
Standard item, free-returns stickerFree return shipping; original shipping not refunded unless Decathlon’s error
Standard item, large item without free returnsReturn shipping not free unless the product page says otherwise
Premium bike or frameEvaluation in 3–5 business days after delivery to the facility; refund after evaluation; up to 15% restocking fee if assembled, used or worn; customer pays return shipping
Used, dirty or mishandled itemNot accepted; returned to you at your cost or donated

Does Decathlon Extend Returns for the Holidays?

No extended holiday return window is published on Decathlon’s US Return Policy page as of 4 November 2026. The standard 30 days from purchase apply year-round, including to December purchases.

That makes timing important for gifts. A Decathlon gift bought in early December is already near the end of its window by Christmas Day, and a gift bought in November may be outside it entirely. If you are buying sports gear as a gift, check the purchase date against the 30 days, and keep the item unused with tags attached until the recipient has decided.

Conclusion

Decathlon’s US policy is simple on the surface — 30 days, unused, tags on, original box — and strict underneath. Free returns cover most non-clearance items, but safety gear, underwear and clearance items are out entirely, a lightly used item is rejected rather than accepted, and premium bikes carry a 15% fee risk plus customer-paid shipping. Check the Free Returns sticker, keep the packaging, and do not use the gear before you decide.
