David’s Bridal Return Policy: 7 Days on Bridal Gowns Under $1,500, 30 Days on Other Eligible Items and Restocking Fees to Watch

David’s Bridal’s return policy is stricter than most clothing stores, and the price of your dress decides the rules. Bridal gowns under $1,500 can be returned for a full refund within 7 days of receiving them, while bridal purchases of $1,500 and above cannot be returned at all — they can only be exchanged. Every other eligible category, from bridesmaid dresses to accessories, gets 30 days after receipt.

There is also a fee layer that surprises many shoppers. Returned bridal and Little White Dress items carry a restocking fee of up to $250, other dresses carry a $15 fee, and a prepaid return label costs $14.99 per label. A valid receipt is required for every return and exchange, and items must be unworn, unwashed, unaltered and undamaged, with all tags attached.

This guide covers the windows by price, the full restocking fee table, what can never be returned, and the exact steps for returning online or in store.

How to Return an Item to David’s Bridal

  1. Check your window and your price band first. Bridal gowns under $1,500 have only 7 days. Everything else eligible has 30 days. If your bridal purchase is $1,500 or more, stop here — it cannot be returned, only exchanged.
  2. Gather your receipt and check the condition. A valid original receipt is required for every return and exchange. The item must be unworn, unwashed, unaltered, undamaged, clean and free of lint and hair, in its original packaging with all tags attached and seals intact.
  3. For an online order, start at Order Status. Enter your order number and email address, which you can find in your confirmation and shipping emails, on your packing slip, or under My Orders in your account. Select Return Item, choose the reason and quantity, and submit the request.
  4. Pack it and ship it within 7 days of starting the return. You will receive an email with a Return Request Number and a return shipping label for each item. Print the label, attach it to the box, and take the package to a UPS-authorized location or drop box. Write each Return Request Number on the box if several items share one box, and keep a copy of the numbers.
  5. Or take it to a US store instead. Returns are accepted in US stores up to 30 days after you receive the merchandise, for a refund to your original form of payment. Exchanges in store are also available within 30 days. Your return or exchange must happen in the country where you bought the item.
  6. Wait for inspection and your refund. David’s Bridal inspects and processes returns within 14 days and emails you confirmation when the return has been processed. Credits may take up to 2 billing cycles to appear on your card statement.

How Long Do You Have to Return Items to David’s Bridal?

The headline split is price-based, and it is the single most important fact in this policy. For eligible in-store purchases made on or after 18 August 2026, the policy page states that bridal gowns under $1,500 are accepted for a full refund up to 7 days after you receive your merchandise. That is a very short window for a wedding dress, and it runs from receipt, not from your wedding date or your first fitting.

Bridal purchases of $1,500 and above are not eligible for return at all. They may be exchanged if every other eligibility requirement is met. The same exchange-only treatment applies to bridal and Little White Dress purchases exceeding $1,499 and to clearance items ending in.88 and.49 cents, which are marked Final Sale.

All other eligible categories may be returned up to 30 days after you receive your merchandise. That covers the bulk of a wedding party order: bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride styles, flower girl dresses, shoes and eligible accessories. Items past the 30-day window are no longer eligible for return or exchange, and the policy page is blunt about it.

One timing trap applies to online returns: once you start a return, you must ship the item within 7 days of initiating it. Do not start a return until the box is ready to go.

What Are the Restocking Fees?

Restocking fees apply per item on returned items, and they are deducted from your refund. The published table is:

CategoryRestocking fee for returns
Bridal and Little White Dress purchases of $1,000 and above$250 or the maximum allowed by state law
Bridal and Little White Dress purchases below $999$50 or the maximum allowed by state law
All other dresses (non-bridal)$15 or the maximum allowed by state law
Items over $1,499Not available for return — exchange only

Note how the fee table and the window interact. A $1,200 gown is returnable within 7 days, but the refund loses $250. An $800 gown loses $50. A $1,600 gown cannot be returned at any fee — exchange is the only option. Hawaii residents pay no restocking fee, but they pay repacking and transportation costs.

What Does the Prepaid Label Cost?

A $14.99 charge is deducted from your refund for each prepaid return shipping label you request, regardless of how many items are in the return. Only one label is needed per order. The same $14.99 charge applies for each prepaid label actually used, as the policy page repeats in its refund section.

You can avoid the label fee by shipping with a carrier of your choice at your own cost. Keep your tracking number either way, because David’s Bridal may ask for it. Initial shipping and handling fees are not refunded on a standard return. Credits cover the merchandise cost plus tax. The exception is a defective item that cannot be replaced: then the refund covers the purchase price plus shipping and handling.

Can You Return to David’s Bridal Without a Receipt?

No. This is a hard rule, not a soft one. The policy page states that a valid receipt is required for all returns and exchanges, and items without a valid, original receipt appear on the excluded list. There is no receipt-lookup route, no store-credit fallback and no ID-based return published on the policy page.

Keep your receipt from the day you buy, and do not delete your order emails until the window has closed. Your order number appears in your confirmation and shipping emails, on your packing slip, and under My Orders in your account.

What Can’t Be Returned to David’s Bridal?

The published excluded list is long, and several entries are wedding-specific:

  • Custom products — special orders, personalized items and dyed items
  • Perishables — food, flowers or plants
  • Shapewear and swimsuits
  • Personal care items — beauty products and face masks
  • Perfumes and colognes
  • Final Sale items, including clearance items ending in.88 and.49 cents
  • Items with any tags removed or packaging and seals opened (plastic dress bags excluded)
  • Gift cards
  • Items without a valid, original receipt
  • Items purchased at David’s Outlet Shops

Any item that comes back stained, worn, torn or altered can also be rejected after inspection. A rejected return is shipped back to your original shipping address. Try dresses on carefully and keep every tag and seal intact.

What If Your Item Arrives Defective or Damaged?

Defective, damaged or incorrect items follow a different route, and the policy page gives two deadlines that you should treat as one urgent one. Tell David’s Bridal about the issue by calling 1-844-400-3222 or texting HELLO to 38201 within 7 days of receiving the shipment — and the same section states that defects or damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery or pickup. Report within 48 hours to be safe on both counts.

Do not submit an online return request for a defective item. You will be given specific return instructions, and you should include a note of explanation in the box. David’s Bridal will try to replace the item, or refund the purchase price plus shipping and handling if it cannot.

How Do Exchanges Work?

Exchanges of equal or greater value are accepted within 30 days after receipt of merchandise, for both store and online purchases. In a US store, you can exchange at any US location within that window.

Online exchanges work differently from a simple swap. You must complete a return and place a new order of equal or greater value. For help with both steps, text EXCHANGE to 38201 or call 1-844-400-3222 Monday–Friday, 10 AM–8 PM EST.

How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?

With the exceptions below, refunds go back to your original form of payment. The published rules are:

Payment situationHow the refund is issued
Standard returnRefund to the original form of payment, minus any restocking fee and any prepaid label fee
Cash purchase, refund over $50Processed as a mailed check
Cash or non-VISA/non-MasterCard debit purchase over $50Mailed check within approximately 21 days
Defective item that cannot be replacedPurchase price plus shipping and handling fees
ExchangeNo refund — a new order of equal or greater value replaces the item

David’s Bridal inspects and processes your return within 14 days of receiving it, and emails you confirmation when processing is complete. After that, credits may take up to 2 billing cycles to appear on your card statement.

Does David’s Bridal Extend Returns for the Holidays?

No extended holiday return window is published on David’s Bridal’s Returns & Exchange Policy page as of 4 November 2026. The standard windows apply year-round: 7 days for bridal gowns under $1,500, 30 days for other eligible categories, and exchange-only for bridal purchases of $1,500 and above and Final Sale clearance items.

For wedding planning, that matters. A dress bought months before the wedding is almost certainly outside its return window by the wedding date. Buy only when you are confident about style and size.

Conclusion

David’s Bridal’s return policy rewards fast decisions and punishes slow ones. Seven days is a very short window for a bridal gown, the $1,500 line turns a return into an exchange-only case, and restocking fees of up to $250 come off the refund before you see it. Keep your receipt, keep every tag attached, report damage within 48 hours, and start any return only when the box is ready to ship within 7 days.
