Daiso Return Policy: All Sales Final, With One Exception for Damaged or Defective Items
Daiso USA’s return policy fits in one sentence: all sales are final. Daiso publishes the policy under the heading “Return & Refund Policy (Final Sale Policy)”, and it applies to all in-store and online-store purchases.
There are no returns, no exchanges and no refunds for customer-preference reasons. Changed your mind, ordered by mistake, no longer need it, don’t like the colour, measured wrong: Daiso lists every one of those reasons by name, and refuses them all.
The single exception is an item that is damaged or defective. For a store purchase, Daiso’s FAQ allows a return of an item purchased defective or damaged within a week of purchase, with a receipt. For an online bulk order, you must contact Daiso’s EC customer support within 7 days of delivery, and the standard remedy is generally a partial refund for the affected quantity, not a return of the whole order.
This guide explains the final-sale rule, the defective-item exception for stores and for online orders, the evidence Daiso asks for, and why the “30-day Daiso return” pages elsewhere on the internet do not describe Daiso USA’s actual policy.
RETURN PERIOD – NONE — ALL SALES ARE FINAL
ITEM CONDITION – NO CONDITION QUALIFIES A PREFERENCE RETURN; ONLY DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE ITEMS ARE CONSIDERED
REFUND TIMING – NO STANDARD REFUND EXISTS; DEFECT REMEDIES ARE DECIDED CASE BY CASE BY DAISO
NO RECEIPT – A RECEIPT IS REQUIRED FOR THE DEFECTIVE-ITEM EXCEPTION ON STORE PURCHASES

What to Do If Your Daiso Item Is Damaged or Defective
- Act inside the short window. For a store purchase, Daiso’s FAQ gives you a week from purchase. For an online order, contact EC customer support within 7 days of delivery. Claims after the period may be denied.
- Keep the receipt and the packaging. A store-purchase claim needs the receipt. An online claim is reviewed from photos of the item and its packaging, including the outer box and packing materials, so do not throw any of it away.
- Contact the right inbox. Store purchases and general inquiries go to support@daiso-usa.com. Online store claims go to ec.customersupport@daiso-usa.com. Include your order number either way.
- Send the evidence Daiso lists. Your order number, your name, a description of the issue, the damaged or defective quantity for each affected item, and photos. Wrong-item claims need a full photo of everything you received; lost-package claims need the tracking information.
- Do not ship anything back unless Daiso asks. You do not need to return defective or damaged merchandise unless Daiso requests it. If it does request a return, it may require all units of the affected item, including undamaged units, and it will provide a return shipping label.
- Expect a remedy, not a standard refund. Daiso decides the outcome at its discretion: a partial refund for the affected quantity, a refund to the original payment method, a return and refund of the affected item, or a replacement if one is available.
Is There Any Return Window at Daiso?
No. There is no return window for ordinary purchases, because there are no ordinary returns.
This is the point on which Daiso USA differs from almost every other retailer in this guide series, and it is worth being blunt about it. The policy is titled a Final Sale Policy. It covers in-store purchases and online-store purchases the same way. It names the preference reasons shoppers usually give, changed mind, ordering mistake, no longer needed, wrong colour, wrong dimensions, and refuses each one.
The only clocks in the policy protect Daiso, not the return. The week to report a defective store purchase, and the 7 days to contact EC support about a damaged online delivery, are deadlines for the exception. Miss them and even a genuinely defective item may be refused.
If you are used to 30-day policies, treat a Daiso purchase the way you would treat a final-sale purchase anywhere else: check the item in the store, measure before you buy, and open online deliveries the day they arrive.
What Counts as Damaged or Defective?
Daiso’s policy accepts two situations for a store purchase: the item is damaged or defective, or a remedy is required by applicable law. For online bulk orders, the accepted list is a little wider: the item arrived damaged, the item is defective upon arrival, the wrong item was shipped, or the package was lost in transit, subject to carrier verification.
One category is specifically shut out. Minor variations are not defects. Daiso warns that product information, specifications, dimensions and materials are presented as accurately as it can manage, but small differences caused by display settings, manufacturing batches or measurement methods do not make an item defective, and they are not eligible for a return or refund unless the law requires one.
That distinction matters most for Daiso’s stock-in-trade: inexpensive household goods, storage, stationery and seasonal items, where a slightly different shade or a millimetre of size difference is common. If the item works, it is not defective under this policy, however it photographs.
How Online Bulk Orders Are Handled
Daiso’s US online store primarily sells products in bulk quantities, and the defect process is built for that. It shapes the remedy in three ways.
First, Daiso says it is generally unable to ship individual replacement units or replacement pieces. A broken unit inside a bulk pack will not normally be replaced one-for-one.
Second, where only part of an order arrives damaged or defective, the standard remedy is generally a partial refund for the damaged or defective quantity, including, where it applies, a proportional shipping refund. You claim for the units that failed, not for the whole order.
Third, you usually keep the merchandise. Defective or damaged items do not need to be returned unless Daiso requests it. If Daiso does request a return, it may require you to send back all units of the affected item, including the undamaged ones, and in that case it provides the return shipping label.
The resolution is Daiso’s choice. The policy lists the options at its discretion: the partial refund, a refund to the original payment method, a return and refund of the affected item, or a replacement item if one is available and applicable. The outcome depends on the issue, the quantity affected, the item’s condition, stock availability, shipping status and the law that applies.
What Can’t Be Returned to Daiso?
Under a final-sale policy, the shorter list is what can come back. Everything in this list cannot:
- Anything you changed your mind about. The policy names the reason and refuses it.
- Anything ordered by mistake, or no longer needed. Both are listed as refused customer-preference reasons.
- Anything the wrong colour, appearance, dimensions or specification for you. If the item matches its description, a mismatch with your needs is not a defect.
- Anything with only minor variations. Display, batch and measurement differences are expressly not defects.
- Anything sent back without authorization. Unauthorized returns are not accepted, and may be refused with no refund or exchange.
- Anything reported too late. A defective store purchase reported after a week, or an online claim made more than 7 days after delivery, may be denied.
None of this is softened by the low prices. If anything, the policy exists because of them: at Daiso’s price points, the cost of processing a preference return would exceed the value of the item, so the retailer has removed preference returns entirely.
How Are Refunds Issued at Daiso?
There is no standard refund to describe, because there is no standard return. Where a defect claim succeeds, the refund is one of several remedies Daiso may choose, and the policy words it carefully.
| Refund question | Daiso USA’s published rule |
|---|---|
| Standard refunds | None — all sales are final |
| Partial damage in a bulk order | Generally a partial refund for the damaged or defective quantity, including any applicable proportional shipping refund |
| Refund method | To the original payment method, where Daiso chooses a refund remedy |
| Replacement | Only if available and applicable; individual replacement units generally cannot be shipped |
| Who decides | Daiso, at its discretion, based on the issue, quantity, condition, inventory, shipping status and applicable law |
| Return shipping on a requested return | Daiso provides a return shipping label |
Do not budget on a refund when you buy from Daiso. Budget on the item being yours. If it arrives broken, the claim route exists and is documented; if it arrives fine and simply isn’t what you wanted, there is no route at all.
Can You Return to Daiso Without a Receipt?
For the one exception that exists, no. Daiso’s FAQ states the defective-item rule as a return of an item purchased defective or damaged within a week of purchase with a receipt. The receipt is part of the exception’s conditions, and the exception may only apply to purchases from Daiso USA stores, not including Hawaii.
For online orders, the equivalent proof is the order itself. Claims run through EC customer support with your order number, your name, and photographic evidence, so keep the order confirmation email and photograph the parcel as it arrives.
The practical rule for Daiso shoppers is simple: keep the receipt for a week on anything that could plausibly be defective, and open every delivery the day it lands. Those two habits are the whole of your protection under this policy.

Conclusion
Daiso is the clearest policy in this entire guide series, because it offers the least. All sales are final, in store and online, and the policy names and refuses every preference reason a shopper might give.
What remains is a narrow, fast-moving exception for damaged and defective goods. A week for a store purchase, with the receipt. Seven days for an online delivery, with photographs. A partial refund as the usual remedy on bulk orders. If you shop at Daiso, shop as if the purchase is permanent, because under its own published policy, it is.
