Garage Return Policy: 30 Days, Free Returns by Mail, and Exchanges Only in Store
Garage Clothing — the Groupe Dynamite brand at garageclothing.com — gives you 30 days from the purchase date to return or exchange most items, as long as they are unworn, unused and unwashed with the original price tags attached. Returns by mail are free for all online orders, using a pre-paid label, and online orders can also be returned in a store. But there is one rule that catches people out: exchanges can only be done in store, even for items bought online.
The other line to respect is the channel rule. In-store purchases cannot be returned by mail — they go back to a store. And a Save The Sale order (ordered in store, shipped to you) must also be returned in store. This guide covers the 30-day window, the free mail returns, the holiday extension to January 9, 2027, and the refund timing.
Return Period: 30 days from the purchase date
Mail Returns: Free for all online orders, with a pre-paid label
Exchanges: In store only, including online purchases
Refund Timing: Within 10 business days of receipt; 3–5 more days for card statements

How to Return an Item to Garage
- Check the date and the condition. You have 30 days from the purchase date, shown in your order confirmation email. The product must be unworn, unused and unwashed, with its original price tags attached. Shoes must be intact and in original condition, with the protective film still on if there was one.
- Decide the route — and respect the channel. An online order can go back by mail or in store. An in-store purchase can only go back to a store, never by mail. A Save The Sale order also goes back in store.
- For a mail return, print your pre-paid label. Log into your online account, open your order history and select “Print Return Label” — the label is auto-filled from your profile and order. If you checked out as a guest, fill out the tracking form to get the label. You get one pre-paid label per order, so if your order arrived in several shipments, wait for the whole order and return it together under the one label.
- Pack it and drop it off. Attach the label securely to each package, preferably in the original packaging. If you are returning more than one order by mail, each order needs its own label and its own package.
- For a store return, bring the receipt. Take the merchandise in its original condition with a proof of purchase (receipt) to a Garage store near you. The item must meet every eligibility requirement.
- For an exchange, go to a store. Exchanges cannot be done by mail, by phone or online — not even for items bought online. Bring the merchandise and the proof of purchase (invoice) within 30 days. Garage and Dynamite orders must be exchanged separately.
- Wait for the refund confirmation. Garage processes refunds within 10 business days of receiving the return, and sends an email confirmation once it is done.
How Long Do You Have to Return Items to Garage?
The standard window is 30 days from the purchase date, and Garage repeats it in every section of its policy: the order must have been placed within the last 30 days, and the date is the one in your order confirmation email.
There is one extension, and it is already live for this season. Merchandise purchased between November 5 and December 5, 2026 that is not final sale may be returned for a full refund or exchange until January 9, 2027, on presentation of the original sales receipt or e-receipt. Purchases made with gift receipts are exchangeable for merchandise, or refundable on a store gift card, until January 9, 2027 on presentation of the gift receipt. If you are buying holiday gifts in that window, the January 9 date is the one to plan around, not the 30 days.
Defective items sit outside the window in a different way. There is no published day limit for reporting a defect — the policy tells you to bring the item in store or email customer service with a clear photo and your order number, and promises a full refund if the item is defective. The disposal or return of the defective item is decided by the customer service team, so contact them before you throw anything away. One special case gets an immediate refund: if a garment arrives with its security tags still on, contact Garage for an immediate refund.
What Condition Must the Item Be In?
Garage publishes four eligibility requirements, and all of them must be met for a refund or exchange:
- The order was placed within the last 30 days, as shown in the order confirmation email
- The product is unworn, unused and unwashed
- The product has its original price tags attached
- Intact shoes can only be returned or exchanged if they are in original condition with protective film (if applicable)
That is a try-on-only standard. Wear it out, wash it, cut the tags off, or scuff the shoes, and the item no longer qualifies. Keep the tags on and the packaging until you are sure, because Garage’s policy gives the store no room to accept a worn item.
What Can’t Be Returned to Garage?
Garage publishes its final sale list, and none of these can be returned or exchanged:
- Earrings, fragrance and beauty products
- Clearance products in the sale section with “Final sale” in the product name
- Gift cards and e-gift cards
- Swimwear bottoms purchased in store — final sale for hygiene reasons
Two swimwear details are worth reading carefully, because the channel changes the answer. Swimwear bottoms bought in store are final sale. Swimwear bottoms bought online can be refunded or exchanged, provided the item is unworn, unused and unwashed and is returned with its original price tags attached — and anything that fails those conditions is not eligible.
Beyond the list, the condition rules do the rest of the work: anything worn, used, washed or missing its tags does not qualify. And the route rules can make an item unreturnable in the channel you prefer — an in-store purchase cannot be mailed back, a Save The Sale order cannot be mailed back, and an exchange cannot be done by mail at all.
How Are Refunds Issued and How Long Do They Take?
Refunds are issued within 10 business days after Garage receives the returned items, using the same method of payment as the original purchase. Once the refund is processed you receive an email confirmation. Two costs are never refunded: shipping charges, including sales taxes on shipping charges, are not refundable.
| Refund question | Garage’s published rule |
|---|---|
| Mail return (online order) | Refund within 10 business days of receipt, to the original payment method; allow 3–5 business days for it to appear on a card statement |
| In-store return | Refund to the same credit or debit card as the original purchase; gift-card payments go to a new gift card |
| PayPal orders | Refunded to the PayPal account, whether returned by mail or in store |
| Gift card / e-gift card purchases | Refunded to the original gift card used to pay; a lost or discarded gift card’s details can be retrieved from the returns confirmation email |
| Save The Sale, paid by cash or debit | Refund provided as an electronic gift card |
| Gift orders (recipient returning) | Refund credited to a new gift card, not the sender’s payment method; no exchanges or instant refunds on credit cards |
| Gift orders (sender returning) | Refund on the original form of payment on request, with items shipped back or brought to a store |
| Shipping charges | Not refundable, including sales taxes on shipping charges |
The PayPal point deserves a note because it differs from most retailers: a PayPal order returned in store is refunded to the PayPal account, not swapped for a store gift card. And the Save The Sale rule is the one to check before you order in store for home delivery — if you paid cash or debit and the item needs a return, the refund comes back as an electronic gift card, not cash.
Can You Return to Garage Without a Receipt?
Garage’s policy treats proof of purchase as required, not optional. For a store return you bring the merchandise “with a proof of purchase (receipt)”. For an exchange, the rule is stated twice over: bring the merchandise “with a proof of purchase (invoice) within 30 days”, and “Exchanges cannot be processed without original receipts.”
For online orders the receipt is easier to replace, because the order exists in your account — the return label is generated from your order history, and the 30-day date is taken from the order confirmation email. For a store purchase there is no such fallback in the published policy, so keep the paper receipt for the full 30 days. If you have lost it, the practical move is to email or call customer service with the details you do have, but the published policy does not promise a receipt-free return.

Conclusion
Garage’s policy is a straightforward 30 days, with free mail returns for online orders and a holiday extension that runs to January 9, 2027. The rules that matter most are the channel rules, not the window: exchanges happen in store only, in-store purchases and Save The Sale orders go back in store only, and a mail return needs one label per order with the whole order returned together.
Keep the tags on, keep the receipt, and decide the route before you start. An online order returned by mail is the easiest path Garage offers; an exchange is a store trip by definition. Do that, and the 30 days works exactly as published.
